M+W Process Automation acts as a Total Automation Solution Provider and assumes the role of a Main Automation Vendor (MAV), offers EPCM, or provides any specified scope from our range of integrated automation solutions as well as offering support on a daily basis.

The range includes concept, basic and detail design to implementation as well as system start-up. Our operations focus on the design of control and process control systems and their vertical integration into the overall business process up to the ERP.

M+W Process Automation has been present in China since 2003 and has – besides its headquarters in Shanghai – branch offices in Nanjing, Beijing and Changchun.

Damian Stellmach is the Branch Manager China of M+W Industrial Automation (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.

He is an electrical engineer and studied in his home town Mannheim (Germany). He completed his studies with the title Dipl. Ing. Automation.

Damian Stellmach worked in the in the area of process automation and vertical integration of automation systems up to the ERP level in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries for more than 13 years.

In 2004 he relocated to China to build up the local branch of M+W Industrial Automation China.

He is also an active member of the NAMUR Working Group 1.10 DCS Engineering in China.

Abstract of speech

The presentation gives a top down overview about Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).

The most important function sets, which are typically used in a state of the art system in the pharmaceutical industry, are shortly presented.

MES as a 3rd level application has a deep impact to the production.

It opens the chance to improve an existing production and to establish a culture of permanent improvement.

In a following short case study the introduction of an MES in phases is presented.

It includes an overview about the basic motivation to use an MES, which was a result of workshops,

The realized benefits and some specific benefits in packaging.

There are some important empiric success factors of MES realization, which are shown at the end.
